CORRESPONDENCE

The Clare District Council having applied to the Government far a sum to be placed on the Estimates for making road from Sevenhills to Mintaro Railway Station, and also to have the road placed on the schedule of main roads, the letter was referred to the Board by the Commissioner of Public Works for report and estimate. The Surveyor reported as follows:— ‘From the Saddleworth and Melrose-road to the junction with the Mintaro and Hoyleton-road is distanced eight miles through hilly country. About one and a half miles road have been made, but so badly that it will require to be remade. The masonry of the culverts is bad, and many are too small for the passage of storm water. About £7,000 will be required to make this road, as a large traffic from the Hill River country and Mintaro township passes over that road.’ The Surveyor’s estimate to be forwarded to the Commissioner.
