Questions over licensing rules

BENCH OF MAGISTRATES.
QUARTERLY MEETING.
Monday, December 9.
Present—Messrs Thomas Gilbert. Chairman; Wigley, Wyatt, Nash, Trimmer, Nicholls, and Hagen.

THE LICENSING SYSTEM.
Mr Trimmer wished to know what was to be the rule for granting or refusing licenses this quarter (a laugh.)
Mr Hagen would like to see some rule established and adhered to. In his opinion the Bench wholly travelled out of their proper course when they enquired whether a man were likely to make a living by opening a particular house.
Mr Trimmer—There is no fixed rule at present. One quarter a house is refused because it is not finished, and the next quarter the applicant is turned back after completing it because some one else has built a better house in the neighbourhood.

NEW GENERAL LICENSES.

Matthew Bailey Muir, Mintaro Hotel, Mintaro, near Mr King’s station on the River Wakefield twenty miles from Mr Dunn’s house.—Granted.
