Memorial, District Council of Stanley

DISTRICT OF STANLEY.
Memorial to the Governor of 49 inhabitants and ratepayers residing in the south-east corner of the Hundred of Clare, showeth—That the important and rising township of Mintaro, which is situate on the main road connecting the Burra with its shipping port (Port Wakefield), and which contains the Post-Office and stores to which your memorialists chiefly resort, is only one section distant from the extreme south-east crner (sic) of the Hundred of Clare, and the western boundary of the Hundred of Stanley, and forms a portion of the northern boundary of the Hundred of Upper Wakefield, being thus on the extreme limits of three districts. That, in consequence of their distance from the township of Clare, the head quarters, and place of meeting of the District Council of that place, the interests of your memorialists are entirely overlooked, and that, although their contributions to the funds of the Council are considerable, yet not one penny has, since the establishment of the Council been expended by it in any sort of improvement near Mintaro. Your memorialists are, therefore, desirous to take the management of their district affairs into their own hands, and to be joined to the Hundred of Stanley, with which the features of the country more naturally connect them than with Clare. Your memorialists therefore pray that it may please your Excellency, according to the provisions of clause 55 of the Act of Council No. 16 of 1852, to separate the south-east corner of the Hundred of Clare from the residue thereof, and to constitute such part a district, in conjunction with the Hundred of Stanley, and that the boundaries of the portion thus cut off may be as follows :—Starting from the south-east corner of the Hundred of Clare, and proceeding westward along the present boundary to Mount Horrocks; thence northward, along the centre of the road to a point in the centre of the road at the north-west corner of Section 171; thence eastward, to a point in the centre of the road opposite the south-east corner of Section 170; thence northward, to a point in the centre of the road at the north-west comer of Section 168; thence eastward, to a point in the centre of the road opposite the south-east corner of Section 172; thence northward, along the centre of the road to a point in the centre of the road south of Section 201; thence eastward, to a point in the centre of the road opposite the north-east corner of 161; thence northward, along the centre of the road to a point opposite the north-west corner of 509; thence eastward, along the centre of the road to a point opposite the north-east corner of 512, on the boundary of the Hundred of Clare; and thence southward, along the said boundary to the point first mentioned.
Memorial of 34 inhabitants and landowners of the Hundred of Stanley, and a portion of the Hundred of Clare, respectfully requesting that the said Hundred of Stanley may be brought under the operation of the Act of Council No. 16 of 1852, and that its boundaries may be altered in some respects and so as to include a portion of the Hundred of Clare, and that the district, with this addition, be called the “District of Stanley,” and that its boundaries be as follows:—On the north, by a line starting from a point on the eastern boundary of the Hundred of Clare, six miles north of its south-eastern angle, and running due east till it meets the county boundary; on the east by the boundary between the Counties of Stanley and Burra; on the south by the boundary between the Counties of Stanley and Light; on the west by the Hundred of Upper Wakefield, and a line starting from the north-eastern corner of the Hundred of Upper Wakefield, and proceeding westward along the present boundary to Mount Horrocks, thence northward along the centre of the road to a point in the centre of the road at the north-western corner of Section 171; thence eastward, to a point in the centre of the road opposite the south-eastern corner of Section 170: thence northward to a point in the centre of the road at the north-western corner of Section 168; thence eastward to a point in the centre of the road opposite the south-eastern corner of Section 172; thence northward along the centre of the road to a point in the centre of the road south of Section 201; thence eastward to a point in the centre of the road opposite the north-eastern corner of Section 164; thence northward along the centre of the road to a point opposite the north-western corner of Section 509; thence eastward along the centre of the road to a point opposite the north-eastern corner of Section 512, on the boundary of the Hundred of Clare; and thence northward along the said boundary to the point first-mentioned. And that your Excellency will be pleased to nominate Messrs. John Pearce, Joseph Williams, Henry Jolly, Thompson Priest, and Alexander Melville, to be the first Councillors of the district according to clause 54 of Act of Council No. 16, 1852.
