CLARE, January 21.
MEETING OF RATEPAYERS
A meeting was held at the Local Court-House for the purpose of electing a Councillor In the place of Mr. Jas. Wright, who has removed out of the district. The meeting commenced at 10 a.m , Dr. C. H. Webb, Chairman of the Council, presiding.
The following gentlemen were proposed as members:— Mr. A. Young, storekeeper, Clare; Mr. A. Trilling, Mintaro Gap; Mr. Thos. Ninnis, farmer, Meadows; and Mr C. Gladow shoemaker, Clare.
At 11 o’clock the Chairman proceeded to put the business to the meeting, and by a show of hands Mr. C. Gladow was declared to be the person to be elected.
Upon this being made known, Mr. Jos. Prater, farmer, Open Range, demanded a poll on behalf of Mr. Thomas Ninnis. At the close of the poll, which terminated at 4 p m., the Chairman declared the poll to be as follows:— Mr. T. Ninnis, 30, and Mr. C. Gladow, 12 The Chairman, therefore, declared Mr. Ninnis duly elected.
