ASSAULT ON A POLICE TROOPER

Assault on a Police-Trooper.— A few days ago, as Police-trooper Abbott, who is stationed at Mintaro, was walking along the road at that place, a drunken man but partially dressed came up to him, and demanded in insulting language the release of some prisoner who was locked up. The trooper told him if he did not be off he would arrest him, on which the ruffian pushed him over a cutting and ran away, and has not yet been captured. Abbott is still suffering from injuries received in the knee caused by the fall.
